Spinal Decompression – A Space Discovery?

The discovery of the Spinal Decompression technology has its origins in space. Observations on astronauts during their time in space flight showed interesting changes to their bodies. In particular, research showed that the weightlessness in space caused the pressure on the astronaut’s spinal columns to reduce while increasing the disc space. These positive changes on the spine resulted in a net growth of 5-7 cm for some astronauts!

This phenomenon was further explored and eventually developed into a medical technology called the DRX9000 where patients undergo 30-45 minutes of pain-free treatment to assist in spinal repair.

How Spinal Decompression Works

Spinal Decompression is a method of treating back pain and other problems with the spine by utilizing a type of motorized traction. The main targets of this method are the spinal discs that serve as cushions between the bones in the spine. The process is quite simple, but the results are excellent:

  1. Spinal Decompression begins by very carefully stretching the spine in a way that affects the position and force of the spine.
  2. The machine-calculated negative pressure on the spinal discs relieves excessive pressure which in turn causes the retraction of herniated or bulging disks.
  3. This retraction results in a reduction in pressure on the nerves and structures in the spine.
  4. With the pressure gone the healing of the discs can start, facilitated by the influx of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the spinal discs.

We Use Spinal Decompression to Treat:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Sciatica (pain, weakness, or tingling that extends down the leg)
  • Damaged or Deteriorated Discs (Degenerative Disc Disease)
  • Bulging or Herniated Discs
  • Osteoarthritis (OA)
  • Facet Syndrome Joint Disease
  • Injured or diseased spinal nerve roots

Advantages of Spinal Decompression:

  • Non-surgical solution
  • Non-invasive
  • Quick (30-45 minutes)
  • Painless

How Effective is Spinal Decompression?

Our success rate with spinal decompression on patients suffering from back, neck, and related pains has a 96% success rate with great results. How are our success rates so high in comparison to so many other chiropractic offices in the Keller / Southlake / Westlake area?

At Keller Disc and Spine, we use the latest and greatest in spinal decompression machines: the DRX 9000. The DRX 9000 spinal decompression machine recreates the effect of being in space on the spinal cord. During each painless treatment, disk pressure is reduced and allows water, oxygen, and nutrients to promote healing within the damaged space between. As the pressure on the disc decreases, pressure on the spinal nerves is relieved. Bulging disc material retracts and damaged structures of the spine are healed and rehabilitated.

Is Spinal Decompression Safe?

Spinal Decompression is extremely safe and does not hurt patients.  A careful examination before treatment is required to determine if Spinal Decompression therapy will be safe and effective for you.  During treatment, Dr. Michael Gray will make sure you are comfortable throughout the entire process. Some even consider it an enjoyable experience and fall asleep! Feel free to ask any and all questions during your consultation with Dr. Gray about what to expect during your spinal decompression therapy.
